A series of activities in the town, between the months of November and December of 2009, will aim at raising funds for the completion of a public school located north of the Gulf of Guinea, the amount of which amounts to 32,000 euros.

The Councillor for Education, Jose Miguel Muñoz, along with representatives from different AMPAS of the municipalities participating in this project (Alhama, and Puerto Lumbreras Totana), informed the media of the particular project.

Thus, José Antonio García, representative of the AMPAS de Totana commented that during the month of April, made a solidarity trip to Burkina Faso with the intention of knowing the reality of this place, contact showed that over 50% of children denied education because of lack of resources to cover the expenses of the AMPAS, about 5 euros per year, necessary to attend college.

According to Lola Hermosilla, a member of the Technical Committee of Project Burkina School, the country has the worst statistics of literacy and education of existing data, which made the return to Spain all agreed on the need to do something regard.

Various actions undertaken to raise funds: participation in acts of volunteerism, sharing tins in shops and public places; next staging of the work of "Bodas de Sangre" by the group Prado Mayor of Totana, whose collection includes tickets will be allocated to this cause ... etc.

The mayor wanted to make full transparency in the management of funds directly controlled by the AMPAS members participating in the project that will reach out to the recipients in the school building.

Alhama City Council has joined this project with input from 2,000 euros in cash, plus the necessary logistical support, while making a public appeal for solidarity to improve the basic conditions of the world we live in .
