The mayor of Alhama de Murcia, José Espadas Lopez, received this morning the Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, who came to the township to receive hands Motera Platform for Traffic Safety in the Region of Murcia award in recognition of the work on road safety for the motorist group.
Swords, who has accompanied at all times the counselor stressed the importance of such actions to protect the life of the city, which was his first appearance at a public ceremony as mayor of the municipality.
Albacete Jose Romero, regional delegate of the National Bikers Platform for Traffic Safety, has been commissioned to deliver a certificate of recognition to the counselor by their campaigns for road safety campaigns to protect the guardrails to motorcycle riders in the event of an accident.
José Ballesta has said that "the priority objective to be achieved from the regional government in roads is to ensure greater safety for drivers, especially to motorists, one of the most vulnerable."
The number of fatalities recorded in the Road Network of the Region has halved over the past two years, rising from 62 deaths in 2007 to 30 in 2009, a decrease of 52 percent.
Also the number of total accidents in 2009 decreased by 48 percent, compared to incidents seen in 2007, going from 692 to 360.
The ceremony was followed by hundreds of motorcyclists from various associations of motorcycles, as the Moto Club Custom Alhama.
Also present were several members of the government team.
